Wholesome Shamrock Shake

This delicious and nutritious alternative to fast food shakes makes a satisfying and filling snack or breakfast.

 

(To really understand the difference, compare the ingredient list below to the 50+ ingredient monstrosity that is the McDonald’s version.)

 

Ingredients

 

One cup water
One ripe frozen banana, cut in pieces
Handful of organic baby green mix (I like Earthbound Farms Power Greens blend)
1/4 tsp peppermint extract
1/4 small to medium ripe avocado (this gives the smoothie a nice creamy texture)
One heaping tablespoon vanilla protein powder (I like Garden of Life RAW)
1 tablespoon of your favorite seeds (flax, chia and/or hemp seeds work well)
10 to 15 small dark chocolate chips (or about 1 to 2 tsp cacao nibs)

 

Directions

 

Place all ingredients except chocolate chips in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Add the chips and pulse 3-4 times.

 

Garnish with fresh mint leaves, coconut flakes, raw walnuts or whatever else suits you.
